Navy SEALs bringing legendary obstacle course race to Atlanta

CONYERS, Ga. -- Leaders of BattleFrog, the obstacle course race group founded by former U.S. Navy SEALs, have announced that due to the tremendous amounts of requests they have received they are bringing their legendary obstacle course race series back to metro Atlanta. The May race will be one of the first stops on the 2015 tour that will see the organization award more than $1 million in cash and prizes to competitors.

BattleFrog Atlanta will be held on Saturday, May 16 at Georgia International Horse Park (1996 Centennial Olympic Parkway, Conyers). Last year’s event drew participants from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Activities begin at 7:30 a.m. and will feature heats for all participants and age levels, as well as an entire family-friendly experience that includes interacting with Navy SEALs, enjoying multiple attractions within the festival compound, and watching racers tackle BattleFrog’s obstacles.

Student in custody after shot fired at Conyers MS

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. -- A student was detained after a shot was fired at Conyers Middle School in Rockdale County on Tuesday, according to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office.

The 14-year-old suspect, who is in 8th grade, was charged with minor in possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon on school property, reckless conduct, and making false statements. He was taken to the Rockdale County Youth Detention Center.

There were no injuries reported and the weapon was recovered after the single shot was fired in a restroom, officials said.


While Grady Jarrett waits for Draft call, his family's house burns

ATLANTA (WXIA) -- It was a life changing weekend for one local football player, in more ways than one.


As Grady Jarrett and his family anxiously waited to hear his name called in the NFL Draft, a fire broke out in the family's kitchen, causing severe damage.

But less than 24 hours later, during the fifth-round of the Draft, Grady Jarrett found a new home in the Atlanta Falcons.

Jarrett entered the weekend with dreams of entering the NFL. He didn't imagine that he'd come home to examine damage from a fire that took out the side of his family's Conyers home.

Suspect arrested in Walgreens robbery

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. -- Police have arrested a man they believe could be connected to a string of Walgreens robberies.

Deputies say Christopher Westmoreland, of Decatur, was arrested on Saturday.

Westmoreland is accused of handing a note to a clerk at a store in Covington that said he's been having a tough time financially and demanded cash.

Investigators believe he may be responsible for at least three other robberies: two in DeKalb County and one in Conyers.

CONYERS, Ga. -- Rockdale County government today announced that Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful (KCRB) is the recipient for of two national and state awards for its unwavering efforts in making the community cleaner, greener and more thriving.

For the third year, Keep America Beautiful (KAB) awarded to KCRB its President’s Circle Award. KAB presented the award last month to qualifying affiliates during its 2015 awards dinner in Washington, D.C. Regionally, Gov. Nathan Deal and the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation (KGB) presented to local KAB affiliates for the second year the Governor’s Circle Award last month during KGB Day at the Capitol.
