Conyers Police Look into New License Plate Surveillance System

Just when you thought Big Brother couldn’t get any worse, Conyers Police look into SkyCop. SkyCop is a vehicle license plate and surveillance system that when mounted in a specific location, has the capability to read license plates on vehicles and assist police in identifying stolen vehicles.

The Conyers Police Department is exploring alternative high-tech policing methods to proactively prevent and fight crime in the community.

Conyers Police Department officials will meet with representatives from ESI Companies regarding their SkyCop technology platform on Thursday, December 2.  The CPD will tour the Pelco Mobile Product Showcase (MPS) when it makes a stop at CPD headquarters on Monday, December 6.  Pelco’s MPS showcases the latest in video security technology for utilization by police departments of all sizes across the country.

If purchased, both systems would communicate wirelessly with the city’s existing Wi-Fi network in Olde Town Conyers and the Georgia International Horse Park.

The Conyers Police Department is considering these and other technology improvements as they prepare to submit their budget requests for fiscal year 2011-2012.
