DINNERS ON A DIME: Cinco de Mayo

DECATUR, Ga. – This week, Dinners on a Dime features local Cinco de Mayo eats. Every Tuesday Where U Live will choose four favorite eats in your area for you to take your family and friends for a fabulous meal, under $20.

At Los Loros Mexican Restaurant the fish tacos are “excellent” and the margaritas are “tasty”. This neighborhood restaurant is a favorite to people who live in the area. Guest favorites include fish tacos and the beef enchilada. The signature margarita is mixed with tequila and Gran Marnier, making it the menu highlight. Visit the restaurant for their Cino de Mayo celebration at 1248 Clairmont Road in Decatur.

The Monterrey Mexican Restaurant in Tucker is known for their Mega-Margaritas, great service and always fresh salsa. On Cinco de Mayo the restaurant will offer food and drink specials, however, nothing on the regular menu exceeds $15.

ATLANTA -- The Shuler Hensley Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theatre were announced at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on Tuesday, Apr. 26.

Forty-one Greater Atlanta-area high schools from 12 counties and 14 school districts, as well as private schools, participated this year.

Join the people of Conyers for a bike ride through Olde Town Conyers. This 4.5 mile group ride is open to kids and adults on the historical streets of Conyers. This ride is held every fourth Sunday of every month. Meet at the railroad depot area at 4:00 p.m.

Check out the Divine Intervention exhibit of African Art and Religion at the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University. This free exhibit is open daily and it showcases different masks and art, along with rituals observed in indigenous African religion.

Callanwolde Fine Arts Center hosts their Tango Night on Friday, April 22. Learn to dance to tango by focusing on rhythm and movement. No partner is necessary and lessons, taught by a Tango expert, begin at 8:00 p.m. And around 9:30 p.m.

Georgia International Horse Park to host Greater Atlanta Dressage Southern

CONYERS, Ga. – This weekend, the Georgia International Horse Park will host the Greater Atlanta Dressage Southern. There will be two shows, this weekend, one on April 9 and the other on April 10.

This dressage competition is an official qualifier for the 2011 FEI North American Junior and Young Riders Championships and Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF National Pony Rider, Junior, Young Rider and Brentina Cup Championships.  

The event will have two courses and competitions will be held from 9AM until 5PM. All events will be held at the Charles Walker Arena.

Admission to this competition is free.

New Depot Players present "Tradin Paint"

CONYERS, Ga. -- The New Depot Players present, “Tradin’ Paint”, a play written by Catherine Bush and directed by Tom Johnson about Darla, who works at a job stocking auto parts.

Her life takes an unexpected turn when she learns to change a tire and ventures into the world of stock car racing.

This show will run at the Conyers-Rockdale Council for the Arts Building on April 7, 8, 9, and 10th. Every show begins at 8PM except the Sunday matinee.

Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival to be held, this weekend

CONYERS, Ga. -- The annual Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival will commence at 10 a.m. on March 26 and continue until March 27 at 5 p.m. at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers. More than 300 local and regional vendors are expected.

The event has been a Conyers staple for 30 years and it draws tens of thousands of people. The festival, annually, draws tens of thousands of people. Recently, the festival was named a Top 20 event by the Southeast Tourism Society for March 2011.

According to the Rockdale Citizen “the lineup includes: children’s activities, food, arts and crafts, continuous entertainment, international music and performances, and civic and non-profit organizations. Admission is free. Parking is $5.”
