COVINGTON, Ga. -- For Newton and Rockdale residents, getting a flu shot this year will be as simple as rolling down a car window and rolling up your sleeve.

Health departments in both counties will host a two-day drive-thru flu shot clinic that will provide free vaccinations to the first 500 participants.

"Not only are we vaccinating the community from the seasonal flu, but we are using this as a great opportunity to exercise our ability to quickly and efficiently administer vaccinations to the public in the event of a widespread public health crisis, such as pandemic influenza," said Dr. Lloyd Hofer, district health director for the Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale County Health Departments.

Drive-thru flu shot clinics will be:

* Newton County
Friday, Oct. 14, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Walmart, 10300 Industrial Boulevard, Covington

* Rockdale County
Friday, Oct. 28, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Rockdale County Health Department, 985 Taylor Street SW, Conyers

After the first 500 attendees have been served, flu shots will be $25 each. No appointments are required.
