Commissioner Oz Nesbitt to host Youth Round Table for the young men of Rockdale

CONYERS, Ga. –The young men of Rockdale County are invited to the male youth round table, “The Man Event,” that Rockdale County Board Commissioner Oz Nesbitt, Sr. is hosting to discuss issues related to young men and the transformation from boyhood to manhood.

The gathering will be on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the large meeting room at the Johnson Park Recreation Center, 1781 Ebenezer Road, in Conyers.

This is a free event and young men of all ages and background are encouraged to attend.

No RSVP or preregistration is required.

Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful seeks Rivers Alive volunteers

CONYERS, Ga. – Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful (KCRB) announces the return of Rivers Alive on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Pine Log Park Pavilion, 1500 Ga. Highway 138, Conyers.

Created by the Department of Natural Resource’s Environmental Protection Division and Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, Rivers Alive targets waterways as part of an ongoing statewide campaign to clean and preserve more than 70,000 miles of Georgia’s rivers and streams.

Volunteers in Rockdale will support the statewide campaign by helping prevent the pollution of the County’s rivers, streams, creeks, lakes, and wetlands. KCRB encourages civic and neighborhood groups, businesses, Boy and Girl Scout troops, churches, youth groups, individuals, businesses, and families to participate in the countywide cleanup.

PROBE College Fair coming to DeKalb

LITHONIA, Ga. -- The popular PROBE College Fair will stop in Lithonia next week, giving high school students an opportunity to speak directly to representatives from their favorite colleges and universities.

The fair will be Monday, Sept. 22 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Mall at Stonecrest. Students from Rockdale and south DeKalb counties are invited to attend.

A number of schools in several states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Tennessee and the Carolinas, will be represented. See a complete list of participating colleges.

Public invited to Neighborhood Stabilization Program town hall

CONYERS, Ga. – Rockdale County Commissioner JaNice Van Ness will host a town hall about possible changes to the use of Rockdale Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funds on Thursday, September 18, at 6 p.m., at the Rockdale County Government Annex, Lobby B, 1400 Parker Road in Conyers.

During the meeting, an overview will be provided about the current use of NSP funds and changes being proposed. Residents will then be invited to share their opinions. The Board of Commissioners is considering amending the NSP Action Plan with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs to change the use of the funds from home renovations and sales to the demolition of foreclosed and abandoned properties with construction of new homes on the same site.

All About Developmental Disabilities offers workshops on dating, employment

DECATUR, Ga. -- All About Developmental Disabilities (AADD) will host workshops for families living with developmental disabilities at two locations this fall. Through their Family Support Center, designed to serve individuals and families living with developmental disabilities in metro Atlanta and across Georgia, AADD offers assistance during various life transitions.

Each workshop will help participants learn more about a specific issue, including dating, employment and planning for future needs. Tuesday workshops will be held at AADD’s Family Support Center in Decatur at 125 Clairemont Ave, Suite 300, Decatur, 30030. Thursday workshops will be held at the Marcus Jewish Community Center, 5342 Tilly Mill Rd, Atlanta, 30338.

ATLANTA –- More than 90 of Atlanta’s most notable and on-the-rise restaurants have signed on to participate in this year’s Taste of Atlanta, which will take place October 24-26 in Midtown at Tech Square.

With eateries featured from both inside and outside the Perimeter, festival-goers will be able to savor truly authentic flavors that represent every corner of the city.
