Look out for runners on Ga. 400

ATLANTA -- Don't be alarmed if you see a whole bunch of people running down Georgia 400 this weekend.

The Pay the Last Toll road race will be held Sunday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m., and gives athletes one last opportunity to see the infamous toll booths before they are demolished.

Runners will begin at the Glenridge Connector in Sandy Springs and run south to Phipps Plaza. When they reach the toll booths, they will throw in their final 50 cents. All proceeds will go to charity.

Northbound lanes of Ga. 400 will be closed for the race from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will also spend part of the weekend tearing down a MARTA pedestrian bridge on southbound Ga. 400.

CONYERS, Ga. – Rockdale County Tax Commissioner RJ Hadley will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for renovations to the lobby of the Tax Commissioner’s Office on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 8:30 a.m. at 969 Pine Street in Conyers. The renovations allow for more space for residents and improved workspaces for staff.

Rockdale County hosts Rock Solid Community Walk/Run to benefit the United Way

CONYERS, Ga. -- Rockdale County invites citizens to lace up their running shoes and participate in the Rock Solid Community Walk, Saturday, Nov. 2 at 8 a.m., at 1400 Parker Road in Conyers. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m.

The 4.2-mile walk/run, which benefits the United Way of Greater Atlanta and service organizations across Rockdale, will begin and end at the Parker Road Annex. The event, sponsored by Coventry HealthCare, is open to participants ages 12 and up. Pre-registration is required.  

Registration forms and liability waivers are available online at www.rockdalecounty.org. Registration is available by mail: Get Active Walk Coordinator, Rockdale County Human Resources, P.O. Box 289, Conyers, GA, or onsite at Rockdale County Human Resources Department, 981 Milstead Ave., Conyers, 30012. Registration is $10, and optional, pre-paid T-shirts are available for $6.

Rockdale hosts first-ever Cyber Security Awareness Forum

CONYERS, Ga. – In observance of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, Rockdale County invites the public to a Cyber Security Awareness Forum on Thursday, Oct. 24, 6 p.m. - 7 p.m., at J.P. Carr Services Center, 981 Taylor Street, Conyers.

Hosted by Rockdale Post II Commissioner JaNice Van Ness, the community forum is designed to provide essential resources and tips that will empower citizens to make smart and safe cyber choices.

At their last meeting in late September, the Board of Commissioners declared October to be Cyber Security Awareness Month and issued a proclamation to the County’s Management Information Systems department. In the proclamation, they encouraged people to educate themselves about things they can do to protect themselves and their families from the growing risk of malicious cyber attacks that cause significant financial and personal privacy losses.

CONYERS, Ga. – Rockdale County invites citizens to join its fundraising efforts to support the 2013 campaign benefitting the United Way of Greater Atlanta. The campaign encourages County employees and citizens to empower families and communities through charitable giving. The Pie-Throwing Contest and Give Back Auction originally scheduled for Tues., Oct. 15 will be held on Wed., Oct. 16.

Rockdale’s fundraising efforts will also help local organizations such as Rockdale Emergency Relief Fund and Prevent Child Abuse Rockdale improve the quality of life of citizens. The public is encouraged to support the following events that will be held at the Parker Road Annex, 1400 Parker Road, Conyers, 30094.
