CONYERS, Ga. -- Seventeen men were arrested after responding to a Backpage ad on Friday, police in Conyers said.
According to police, the men were charged with pandering. One man was also charged with marijuana possession; another was charged with cocaine possession.
Police said the sting operation took place after a man robbed a woman who was advertising on the Backpage website. Police have arrested 23-year-old Trevon Meeks in connection with that incident, which took place Dec. 14. The victim was charged with prostitution and possession of marijuana.
“Due to violent crimes like these, it is important we conduct regular stings at our local motels,” Conyers Police Chief Gene Wilson said in a statemetn. “We must remind these criminals that Conyers will not tolerate such acts of solicitation that inevitably brings drugs and violence with it.”
