All suspects in custody from Rockdale County chase, shooting | News
ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. -- All four suspects involved in a wild, Sunday police chase that ended in gunfire and left a sheriff's deputy injured are now in custody, according to authorities.
Two suspects were wounded in Sunday's gunfire, and were arrested. On Monday, the other two suspects who were on the run since the incident were finally captured.
This could easily have ended with people killed, including innocent bystanders and the sheriff's deputy.
It all started at about 9 a.m. in Conyers where four men were speeding away from a house they're suspected of burglarizing.
A Rockdale County Sheriff’s deputy spotted them because their car matched the description of the getaway car.
They wouldn’t stop when he tried to pull them over. They drove into a subdivision and two of the men got out and ran away.
The other two sped off and drove into another subdivision - Hidden Acres.
Deputies boxed their car in at a cul-de-sac, but they found a way to drive away again and they struck a deputy with their car. Other deputies shot at the men and wounded them.
“I was like, oh, Lord,” witness Diane Mitchell said. “In my neighborhood?”
Mitchell said the only reason children were not outside playing during all of that mayhem was because of the weather.
“So, you know, it scared me, because we have kids,” she said. “My grandson plays in the cul-de-sac right there, riding his bike and everything.”
Deputies chased the two men into another subdivision and used a PIT maneuver to stop them and arrest them.
Michael Meyers of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office said the two suspects who were shot in the gunfire received non-life-threatening wounds, and the deputy received minor injuries when they drove into him with their car.
“The officer is recovering fine, released already,” Meyers said, “laceration to his leg, nothing that was critical.”
The Sheriff’s office has not yet released a description of the two men who got away.
