News

ATLANTA -- Week 3 of high school football in the Metro Atlanta area brings a showdown that fans have waiting to see for an entire year.

Last September, Gainesville traveled to Buford and handed the Wolves a rare regular season lost on their home field. 19-15 was the score as the Red Elephants took advantage of 5 Buford turnovers and were victorious for the first time in 5 meetings between the two schools.

And this Friday night defending class AAAAA champion Gainesville will host defending class AAA champion Buford in a marquee matchup.

Not far away West Forsyth will try to shake off last week's loss to Gainesville when they call on Flowery Branch. Other matches to watch this week include Brookwood at Mill Creek, Kell at Woodstock, East Coweta travels to Gwinnett County to call on Archer, while defending class AAAAAA champion Norcross will visit Parkview in a battle of teams trying to break into the win column.

To the east, Rockdale County and Heritage will tangle for county bragging rights. In DeKalb County, Arabia Mountain and Stephenson meet with unblemished records. The same is true for Chamblee and Druid Hills. Southwest DeKalb will try to avoid starting the season 0 and 2 against M.L. King.

On the southside, defending AAAA champion Sandy Creek will host Newnan, Northgate goes to Griffin, Locust Grove visits Ola, while in Clayton Riverdale tangles with Drew, and in South Fulton Creekside will try and follow up last week's emotion driven victory over Langston Hughes when they visit arch-rival Westlake.

Talk about close, you can't much closer than Holy Innocents' and Riverwood. The two schools share the same stadium for home games. Friday night they wlll meet in a friendly contest that neither team really wants to lose..

Go out and support the high school football team in your area. Enjoy the games.
