Burst pipes causing problems across metro Atlanta

(WXIA) -- Reports of burst pipes have come in from all over metro Atlanta. More
may come as pipes begin to thaw after this week's frigid temperatures.

With temperatures remaining below freezing for more than 24 hours, pipes are literally breaking under the strain.

In southwest Atlanta, an auto repair shop flooded near the intersection of Metropolitan Parkway and Wells Street, just south of Interstate 20. Water from the shop flowed into the street and froze.

At the Horizon Extended Stay Motel in Conyers, a burst pipe on the third floor sent water cascading down stairwells and onto floors below.

Also in Rockdale County, burst pipes sent water into buildings and into the streets in several locations, including at the Peaks Landing Apartments, the Boys and Girls Club and at the Rockdale Medical Center.

Other reports came in from Atlanta, Norcross, Lawrenceville nad Grayson.

Plumbers and repair technicians said leaking pipes in other location across the area will only make themselves evident, once the pipes themselves begin to thaw out.

Conyers officials said Tuesday afternoon they were concerned about the water freezing in the frigid conditions, creating driving hazards. They recommend caution in those areas.
