CONYERS, Ga. -- Rockdale County Public Schools has named its STAR Students and Teachers for the 2012-13 school year.

In order to become a STAR Student, a high school senior must earn the highest SAT score and have a GPA in the top 10 percent of his or her class.

Every STAR Student chooses a teacher who inspires him or her to be a STAR Teacher.

This year's Rockdale County STAR Students and Teachers are:

Heritage HS
STAR Student: Megan Searles
STAR Teacher: Julie Kimble, English
Searles plans to attend Brigham Young University, where she will study physics.

Rockdale County HS
STAR Student: Loren Stokes
STAR Teacher: Scott Stanton, band director
Stokes plans to perform missionary work and study either English or international studies; she has not yet decided where to go to college.

Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology
STAR Student: Heeyoon Kim
STAR Teacher: Dr. Charles Garner, math
Kim is Rockdale County's overall STAR Student; she earned the highest SAT score in the district. Although she has not decided which college to attend, she knows she wants to study medicine.

Salem HS
STAR Student: Candace Biamby
STAR Teacher: Chris Mays, English
Biamby plans to study computer science at the University of California at Berkeley.
