Atlanta Dream to host Salem HS fundraiser

CONYERS, Ga. -- Atlanta Dream guard Lindsey Harding will make an appearance at Lady Seminole Basketball Night, which raises money for the Salem High School girls basketball team.

The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Chili's Grill & Bar in Conyers.

Print and bring the official Atlanta Dream flyer to Chili's to donate 10 percent of your purchase to the Salem High girls basketball program.

The Conyers Chili's is located at 1570 Dogwood Drive.

School system to hold college athletic recruiting seminar

CONYERS, Ga. -- High school athletes in Rockdale County are invited to bring their parents and coaches to an information session about the college recruitment process.

Get in the Game: College Athletic Recruiting 101 will be hosted by recruiting expert Joe Burns and will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16 at Rockdale Career Academy.

The information session will cover a number of topics, including NCAA requirements for recruitment, the rules of the process, and ways to create a game plan to become a college student-athlete.

Rockdale Career Academy is located at 1064 Culpepper Drive SW in Conyers.

'World's Shortest Endurance Run' to mark St. Patrick's Day

'World's Shortest Endurance Run' to mark St. Patrick's Day

CONYERS, Ga. -- In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the Rotary Club of Rockdale County will host its annual World's Shortest Endurance Run and just-as-short parade this week.

The .1 mile run (yes, that's 1/10 of a mile) will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 16. Participants ages 12 and younger will take off at 5:00 and will finish no later than 5:02 p.m., when the race will begin for everyone aged 13 and older.

Race officials say a hydration station will be located at the halfway mark in the race -- that's .05 miles in. All participants will receive T-shirts.

The Olde Towne Conyers St. Patty's Parade will be held before the race. It will follow the race route, beginning at 4:30 p.m. and ending at about 4:35 p.m.

Traffic impacted this Sunday due to Atlanta Marathon

Expect road closures on Sunday as runners discover Atlanta one mile at a time at the Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay on Sunday, October 30, 2011. The 26.2 mile urban course starts and finishes at Atlantic Station taking participants on a tour of Atlanta past well-known Atlanta sites and neighborhoods such as Georgia Tech, Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia Aquarium, Turner Field, Grant Park, Oakland Cemetery, Martin Luther King Center, Piedmont Park, Buckhead and the famous Peachtree Road.

Below are some important resources for spectators and residents / businesses located along the course.

LOCAL PROFILE: NFL Linebacker Rennie Curran

LILBURN -- Former Brookwood High School football standout, Rennie Curran is patiently waiting for a new jersey. Over the past two years, Curran went from the University of Georgia to LP Field in Nashville and now he's back at home.

Curran was released shortly after this year's NFL pre-season, despite leading the team in tackles during the pre-season.

Since being cut, Curran has been training at Catalyst and other gyms to ensure that when he does get a call, he wont miss a step. Curran is pretty confident he'll be wearing someone's jersey soon.
