Netwon High Rams top Newnan 53-33, punch ticket to state

McDONOUGH -- (www.covnews.com) The Rams had several goals coming into the season. They met two of those by winning 20 games and the regular-season region title earlier this month. After a 53-33 win over Newnan in the opening round of the Region 2-AAAAA tournament Tuesday, they can cross off one more.

Derrick Henry scored 20 points, Newton held the Cougars to 13 points in the second half and the Rams punched their ticket to the Class AAAAA playoffs for the second straight year.

"That's something like nine or 10 times in the past 13 years we've won 20 games and gone to state," Newton coach Rick Rasmussen said. "That's definitely something we shoot for each year and that's a great accomplishment but I don't think that's enough for our program right now.

Rockdale Trail Blazers Hold Their Annual Wellness Clinic and Vet Day

CONYERS – The Rockdale Trail Blazers will be holding their Wellness Clinic and Vet Day on Saturday, February 19th starting at 2:00 p.m. This event will be held at the International Horse Park in the Blue Parking Lot. During the clinic, equine owners will have the opportunity to receive routine vaccinations and testing for their animals, at a fraction of the original price.

As opposed to paying a veterinarian about $50 to come out and vaccinate their animals, equestrians are encouraged to bring their animals to the horse park, for treatment. Vets will be drawing blood for the Coggins Test and vaccinating horses for West Nile Virus and a number of other ailments.

The Rockdale Trail Blazers have been hosting their Wellness Clinic and Vet Day for about four years and they plan on expanding to hold it twice, annually. Tomorrow, the Trail Blazers will meet at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Center at 6:00 p.m.
